Methuselah lived after he fathered Lamech 782 years and had other sons and daughters.
→Et Méthuséla, après qu'il eut engendré Lémec, vécut sept cent quatre-vingt-deux ans; et il engendra des fils et des filles.

→Thus all the days of Methuselah were 969 years, and he died.

Lémec aussi vécut cent quatre-vingt deux ans, et il engendra un fils.

and called his name Noah, saying, “Out of the ground thatthe LORD has cursed, this one shall bring us reliefd from our work and from the painful toil of our hands.”
→Et il le nomma Noé, en disant : Celui-ci nous soulagera de notre œuvre, et du travail de nos mains, sur la terre que l'Eternel a maudite.

Lamech lived after he fathered Noah 595 years and had other sons and daughters.
→Et Lémec, après qu'il eut engendré Noé, vécut cinq cent quatre-vingt quinze ans; et il engendra des fils et des filles.

Thus all the days of Lamech were 777 years, and he died.
→Tout le temps donc que Lémec vécut, fut sept cent soixante dix-sept ans; puis il mourut.

Et Noé, âgé de cinq cents ans, engendra Sem, Cam, et Japheth.
→After Noah was 500 years old, Noah fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them,
→Or il arriva que quand les hommes eurent commencé à se multiplier sur la terre, et qu'ils eurent engendré des filles,

the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.
→Les fils de Dieu voyant que les filles des hommes étaient belles, prirent pour leurs femmes de toutes celles qu'ils choisirent.

Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”
→Et l'Eternel dit : Mon Esprit ne plaidera point à toujours avec les hommes, car aussi ils ne sont que chair; mais leurs jours seront six vingts ans.

The Nephilimb were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.
→Il y avait en ce temps-là des géants sur la terre, lors, dis-je, que les fils de Dieu se furent joints avec les filles des hommes, et qu'elles leur eurent fait des enfants. Ce sont ces puissants hommes qui de tout temps ont été des gens de renom.

The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
→Et l'Eternel voyant que la malice des hommes était très-grande sur la terre, et que toute l'imagination des pensées de leur cœur n'était que mal en tout temps;

And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.
→Se repentit d'avoir fait l'homme sur la terre, et en eut du déplaisir dans son cœur.

So the LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
→Et l'Eternel dit : J'exterminerai de dessus la terre les hommes que j'ai créés, depuis les hommes jusqu'au bétail, jusqu'aux reptiles, et même jusqu'aux oiseaux des cieux; car je me repens de les avoir faits.

But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
→Mais Noé trouva grâce devant l'Eternel.

These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.
→Ce sont ici les générations de Noé. Noé fut un homme juste [et] intègre en son temps, marchant avec Dieu.

And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
→Et Noé engendra trois fils, Sem, Cam, et Japheth.

Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence.
→Et la terre était corrompue devant Dieu, et remplie d'extorsion.

And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
→Dieu donc regarda la terre, et voici elle était corrompue; car toute chair avait corrompu sa voie sur la terre.

And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
→Et Dieu dit à Noé : La fin de toute chair est venue devant moi; car ils ont rempli la terre d'extorsion, et voici, je les détruirai avec la terre.

Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch.
→Fais-toi une arche de bois de gopher; tu feras l'arche par loges, et la calfeutreras de bitume par dedans et par dehors.

This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits.
→Et tu la feras en cette manière; la longueur de l'arche sera de trois cents coudées; sa largeur de cinquante coudées, et sa hauteur de trente coudées.

Make a rooff for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third decks.
→Tu donneras du jour à l'arche, et feras son comble d'une coudée [de hauteur], et tu mettras la porte de l'arche à son coté, et tu la feras avec un bas, un second, et un troisième étage.

For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven. Everything that is on the earth shall die.
→Et voici, je ferai venir un déluge d'eau sur la terre, pour détruire toute chair en laquelle il y a esprit de vie sous les cieux; et tout ce qui est sur la terre expirera.

But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
→Mais j'établirai mon alliance avec toi; et tu entreras dans l'arche toi et tes fils, et ta femme, et les femmes de tes fils avec toi.

And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female.
→Et de tout ce qui a vie d'entre toute chair tu en feras entrer deux [de chaque espèce] dans l'arche, pour les conserver en vie avec toi, savoir le mâle et la femelle;

Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground, according to its kind, two of every sort shall come in to you to keep them alive.
→Des oiseaux, selon leur espèce des bêtes à quatre pieds, selon leur espèce, [et] de tous reptiles, selon leur espèce. Il y entrera de tous par paires avec toi, afin que tu les conserves en vie.

Also take with you every sort of food that is eaten, and store it up. It shall serve as food for you and for them.”
→Prends aussi avec toi de toute chose qu'on mange, et la retire à toi, afin qu'elle serve pour ta nourriture, et pour celle des animaux.

Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.
→Et Noé fit selon tout ce que Dieu lui avait commandé; il le fit ainsi.

Then the LORD said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and allyour household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation.
→Et l'Eternel dit à Noé : Entre, toi et toute ta maison, dans l'arche; car je t'ai vu juste devant moi en ce temps-ci.

Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals, the male and his mate, and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and his mate,
→Tu prendras de toutes les bêtes nettes sept de chaque espèce, le mâle et sa femelle; mais des bêtes qui ne sont point nettes, un couple, le mâle et la femelle;

and seven pairs of the birds of the heavens also, male and female, to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth.
→[Tu prendras] aussi des oiseaux des cieux sept de chaque espèce, le mâle et sa femelle; afin d'en conserver la race sur toute la terre.

For in seven days I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and every living thing that I have made I will blot out from the face of the ground.”
→Car dans sept jours je ferai pleuvoir sur la terre pendant quarante jours et quarante nuits; et j'exterminerai de dessus la terre toute chose qui subsiste, laquelle j'ai faite.

And Noah did all that the LORD had commanded him.
→Et Noé fit selon tout ce que l'Eternel lui avait commandé.

Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters came upon the earth.
→Or Noé était âgé de six cents ans quand le déluge des eaux vint sur la terre.


And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him went into the ark to escape the waters of the flood.
→Noé donc entra, et avec lui ses fils, sa femme, et les femmes de ses fils, dans l'arche, à cause des eaux du déluge.

Of clean animals, and of animals that are not clean, and of birds, and of everything that creeps on the ground,
→Des bêtes nettes, et des bêtes qui ne sont point nettes, et des oiseaux, et de tout ce qui se meut sur la terre.

two and two, male and female, went into the ark with Noah, as God had commanded Noah.
→Elles entrèrent deux à deux vers Noé dans l'arche, le mâle et la femelle, comme Dieu avait commandé à Noé.

And after seven days the waters of the flood came upon the earth.
→Et il arriva qu'au septième jour les eaux du déluge furent sur la terre.

In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened.
→En l'an six cent de la vie de Noé au second mois, le dix-septième jour du mois, en ce jour-là toutes les fontaines du grand abîme furent rompues, et les bondes des cieux furent ouvertes.

And rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
→Et la pluie tomba sur la terre pendant quarante jours et quarante nuits.

On the very same day Noah and his sons, Shem and Ham and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them entered the ark,
→En ce même jour Noé, et Sem, Cam, et Japheth, fils de Noé, entrèrent dans l'arche, avec la femme de Noé, et les trois femmes de ses fils avec eux.

they and every beast, according to its kind, and all the livestock according to their kinds, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, according to its kind, and every bird, according to its kind, every winged creature.
→Eux, et toutes les bêtes selon leur espèce, et tout bétail selon son espèce, et tous les reptiles qui se meuvent sur la terre, selon leur espèce, et tous les oiseaux, selon leur espèce; [et] tout petit oiseau ayant des ailes, de quelque sorte que ce soit.

They went into the ark with Noah, two and two of all flesh in which there was the breath of life.
→Il vint donc de toute chair qui a en soi esprit de vie, par couples à Noé, dans l'arche.

And those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him. And the LORD shut him in.
→Le mâle, dis-je, et la femelle de toute chair y vinrent, comme Dieu lui avait commandé; puis l'Eternel ferma l'arche sur lui.

The flood continued forty days on the earth. The waters increased and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth.
→Et le déluge vint pendant quarante jours sur la terre; et les eaux crurent, et élevèrent l'arche, et elle fut élevée au-dessus de la terre.

The waters prevailed and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the face of the waters.
→Et les eaux se renforcèrent, et s'accrurent fort sur la terre, et l'arche flottait au-dessus des eaux.

The flood continued forty days on the earth. The waters increased and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth.
→Les eaux donc se renforcèrent extraordinairement sur la terre, et toutes les plus hautes montagnes qui sont sous tous les cieux, en furent couvertes.

Les eaux se renforcèrent de quinze coudées par-dessus, et les montagnes en furent couvertes.
→The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep.

And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind.
→Et toute chair qui se mouvait sur la terre expira, tant des oiseaux que du bétail, des bêtes à quatre pieds, et de tous les reptiles qui se traînent sur la terre, et tous les hommes.

Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died.
→Toutes les choses qui étaient sur le sec, ayant respiration de vie en leurs narines, moururent.

He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark.
→Tout ce donc qui subsistait sur la terre fut donc exterminé, depuis les hommes jusques aux bêtes, jusques aux reptiles, et jusques aux oiseaux des cieux; ils furent, dis-je, exterminés de dessus la terre; mais seulement Noé, et ce qui était avec lui dans l'arche, demeura de reste.

And the waters prevailed on the earth 150 days.
→Et les eaux se maintinrent sur la terre durant cent cinquante jours.

But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided.
→Or Dieu se souvint de Noé, et de toutes les bêtes, et de tout le bétail qui était avec lui dans l'arche; et Dieu fit passer un vent sur la terre, et les eaux s'arrêtèrent.

The fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the rain from the heavens was restrained,
→Car les sources de l'abîme, et les bondes des cieux avaient été refermées, et la pluie des cieux avait été retenue.


and the waters receded from the earth continually. At the end of 150 days the waters had abated,
→Et au bout de cent cinquante jours les eaux se retirèrent sans interruption de dessus la terre, et diminuèrent.

and in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.
→Et le dix-septième jour du septième mois l'arche s'arrêta sur les montagnes d'Ararat.

And the waters continued to abate until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen.
→Et les eaux allèrent en diminuant de plus en plusjusqu'au dixième mois; et au premier jour du dixième mois les sommets des montagnes se montrèrent.

At the end of forty days Noah opened the window of the ark that he had made.
→Et il arriva qu'au bout de quarante jours Noé ouvrit la fenêtre de l'arche qu'il avait faite.

and sent forth a raven. It went to and fro until the waters were dried up from the earth.
→Et il lâcha le corbeau, qui sortit allant et revenant, jusqu'à ce que les eaux se fussent desséchées sur la terre.

Then he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters had subsided from the face of the ground.
→Il lâcha aussi d'avec soi un pigeon, pour voir si les eaux étaient allégées sur la terre.

But the dove found no place to set her foot, and she returned to him to the ark, for the waters were still on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her and brought her into the ark with him.
→Mais le pigeon ne trouvant pas sur quoi poser la plante de son pied, retourna à lui dans l'arche; car les eaux étaient sur toute la terre; [et Noé] avançant sa main le reprit, et le retira à soi dans l'arche. sich in den Kasten.

He waited another seven days, and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark.
→Et quand il eut attendu encore sept autres jours, il lâcha encore le pigeon hors de l'arche.

And the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was a freshly plucked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the waters had subsided from the earth.
→Et sur le soir le pigeon revint à lui; et voici il avait dans son bec une feuille d'olivier qu'il avait arrachée; et Noé connut que les eaux étaient diminuées de dessus la terre.


Then he waited another seven days and sent forth the dove, and she did not return to him anymore.
→Et il attendit encore sept autres jours, puis il lâcha le pigeon, qui ne retourna plus à lui.

In the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried from off the earth. And Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry.
→Et il arriva qu'en l'an six cent et un [de l'âge de Noé], au premier jour du premier mois les eaux se furent desséchées de dessus la terre; et Noé ôtant la couverture de l'arche, regarda, et voici, la surface de la terre se séchait.

Et au vingt-septième jour du second mois la terre fut sèche.
→In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth had dried out.

Then God said to Noah,
→ Puis Dieu parla à Noé, en disant :

“Go out from the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you.
→Sors de l'arche, toi et ta femme, tes fils, et les femmes de tes fils avec toi.

Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh—birds and animals and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth—that they may swarm on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.”
→Fais sortir avec toi toutes les bêtes qui sont avec toi, de toute chair, tant des oiseaux que des bêtes à quatre pieds, et tous les reptiles qui rampent sur la terre; qu'ils peuplent en abondance la terre, et qu'ils foisonnent et multiplient sur la terre.

So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him.
→Noé donc sortit, [et] avec lui ses fils, sa femme, et les femmes de ses fils.

Every beast, every creeping thing, and every bird, everything that moves on the earth, went out by families from the ark.
→Toutes les bêtes à quatre pieds, tous les reptiles, tous les oiseaux, tout ce qui se meut sur la terre, selon leurs espèces, sortirent de l'arche.

Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
→Et Noé bâtit un autel à l'Eternel, et prit de toute bête nette, et de tout oiseau net, et il en offrit des holocaustes sur l'autel.

And when the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, the LORD said in his heart, “I will never again cursea the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.
→Et l'Eternel flaira une odeur d'apaisement, et dit en son cœur; je ne maudirai plus la terre à l'occasion des hommes, quoique l'imagination du cœur des hommes soit mauvaise dès leur jeunesse; et je ne frapperai plus toute chose vivante, comme j'ai fait.

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”
→[Mais] tant que la terre sera, les semailles et les moissons, le froid et le chaud, l'été et l'hiver, le jour et la nuit ne cesseront point.

Et Dieu bénit Noé, et ses fils, et leur dit : Foisonnez, et multipliez, et remplissez la terre.
→And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.


The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered.
→Et que toutes les bêtes de la terre, tous les oiseaux des cieux, avec tout ce qui se meut sur la terre, et tous les poissons de la mer vous craignent et vous redoutent; ils sont mis entre vos mains.

Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.
→Tout ce qui se meut et qui a vie, vous sera pour viande; je vous ai donné toutes ces choses comme l'herbe verte.

But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
→ Toutefois vous ne mangerez point de chair avec son âme, [c'est-à-dire], son sang.

And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man.
→Et certes je redemanderai votre sang, [le sang] de vos âmes, je le redemanderai de la main de toutes les bêtes, et de la main de l'homme, même de la main de chacun de sesfrères je redemanderai l'âme de l'homme.

“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.
→Celui qui aura répandu le sang de l'homme dans l'homme, son sang sera répandu; car Dieu a fait l'homme à son image.

And you, be fruitful and multiply, increase greatly on the earth and multiply in it.”
→Vous donc, foisonnez, multipliez, croissez [en toute abondance] sur la terre, et multipliez sur elle.

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him,
→Dieu parla aussi à Noé et à ses fils qui étaient avec lui, en disant :

“Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you,
→Et quant à moi, voici, j'établis mon alliance avec vous, et avec votre race après vous.

and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth.
→Et avec tout animal vivant qui est avec vous, tant des oiseaux, que du bétail, et de toutes les bêtes de la terre qui sont avec vous, de toutes celles qui sont sorties de l'arche, jusqu'à toutes les bêtes de la terre.

I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
→J'établis donc mon alliance avec vous, et nulle chair ne sera plus exterminée par les eaux du déluge, et il n'y aura plus de déluge pour détruire la terre.

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations:
→Puis Dieu dit : C'est ici le signe que je donne de l'alliance entre moi et vous, et entre toute créature vivante qui est avec vous, pour durer à toujours;

I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
→Je mettrai mon arc en la nuée, et il sera pour signe de l'alliance entre moi et la terre.

Et quand il arrivera que j'aurai couvert la terre de nuées, l'arc paraîtra dans la nuée.
→ When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds,


I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
→Et je me souviendrai de mon alliance qui est entre moi et vous, entre tout animal qui vit en quelque chair que ce soit; et les eaux ne feront plus de déluge pour détruire toute chair.

When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
→L'arc donc sera dans la nuée, et je le regarderai, afin qu'il me souvienne de l'alliance perpétuelle entre Dieu et tout animal vivant, en quelque chair qui soit sur la terre.


God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
→Dieu donc dit à Noé : C'est là le signe de l'alliance que j'ai établie entre moi et toute chair qui est sur la terre.

The sons of Noah who went forth from the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)
→Et les fils de Noé qui sortirent de l'arche, furent Sem, Cam, et Japheth. Et Cam fut père de Canaan.

These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the people of the whole earth were dispersed.
→Ce sont là les trois fils de Noé, desquels toute la terre fut peuplée.

Noah began to be a man of the soil, and he planted a vineyard.
→Et Noé, laboureur de la terre, commença de planter la vigne.

He drank of the wine and became drunk and lay uncovered in his tent.
→Et il en but du vin, et s'enivra, et il se découvrit au milieu de sa tente.

And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside.
→Et Cam, le père de Canaan, ayant vu la nudité de son père, le déclara dehors à ses deux frères.

Then Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and walked backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned backward, and they did not see their father’s nakedness.
→Et Sem et Japheth prirent un manteau qu'ils mirent sur leurs deux épaules, et marchant en arrière, ils couvrirent la nudité de leur père; et leurs visages [étaient tournés] en arrière, de sorte qu'ils ne virent point la nudité de leur père.

When Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had done to him,
→Et Noé réveillé de son vin, sut ce que son fils le plus petit lui avait fait.

he said, “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.”
→C'est pourquoi il dit : Maudit soit Canaan; il sera serviteur des serviteurs de ses frères.

May God enlarge Japheth, and let him dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be his servant.”
→Il dit aussi : Béni soit l'Eternel, Dieu de Sem; et que Canaan leur soit fait serviteur.

May God enlarge Japheth, and let him dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be his servant.”
→Que Dieu attire en douceur Japheth, et que [Japheth] loge dans les tabernacles de Sem; et que Canaan leur soit fait serviteur.

After the flood Noah lived 350 years.

The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

From these the coastland peoples spread in their lands, each with his own language, by their clans, in their nations.

The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.

Cush fathered Nimrod; he was the first on earth to be a mighty man.

To Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, children were born.

The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.

The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.

Arpachshad fathered Shelah; and Shelah fathered Eber.

To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg,for in his days the earth was divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan.

Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
